SUMMER SERIES: Mandarin Lips

Seeing as last my tutorial (which you can see here) was really focused on those warm summery shades on the lids, this time I thought I would go a bold lip in center stage.
Orange is a colour which distinctly reminds me of summer with its’ brightness and warmth. So this was a great chance to really play with a colour I am not too use to. Honestly though, this eyelook will go with any lip/blush combination, so if you are in winter go a deep red lip and a berry blush!

Feel free to tone it down or turn up the make-up look and if you recreate it, tag me on instagram @shaydoesthething or tweet me @beauty_dork

After moisturizing, apply your base as you usually would. To do this I used Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation and Lumi Magique Primer, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Fair and Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown. I then set the liquids with the Australis AC On Tour Kit using the yellow shade for under the eyes and the pink shade for all over the face.

I’m going for a strong contour using Australis (really? More Australis?) AC On Tour Kit and like in my previous Summer Series tutorial, blending that out well with Stila’s Give Me Sun Bronzer in Light. My review for the AC On Tour Kit can be found here – so if you are interested in my thoughts on it go visit me over there.

I’m blending this light BYS orange blush onto my cheeks very, very carefully because I am not emotionally ready to be an Oompa Loompa. Finally go crazy with some highlight, which I used (surprise) the AC On Tour Kit highlighting shade. Set all this caked product down with a setting spray and take a deep breath because the boring part is nearly over.

Now the lips are the star of the show, so the eyes should be extremely neutral. For this I am using the Lorac Pro Palette. Jeez I adore this palette.
I’m firstly lightly applying the Lorac primer. I then sweep a mixture of cream and white over the entire eye up to the brow bone.
For a transition colour, apply Taupe, a lovely warm brown that is perfect for a crease colour. Apply this colour also to the outer v.
If you want to deepen this look up, apply the shade sable to the outer v and blend in to the taupe and slightly into the crease. I then used the Stila Give Me Sun Bronzer to really warm the eyes up. Add Mary Lou-manizer to the inner corner to give the eye some sparkle.
Using liquid eyeliner, in which I used Maybelline Master Precise (believe the hype), draw a nice thin wing. To finish the eye, apply flirty lashes if that is your thing and mascara to the top lashes only to really lift the eye.

Now the star of the show is super easy. Lastly, apply Rimmel Moisture Renew in In Love with Ginger to the lips and bam! You’re done! If you need to, crisp up that edge by applying concealer around your lip line. This will not only sharpen that line, but really help clean up any little mistakes.

And that is the finished look. What do you think, and where would you wear this? What do you like to wear for summer? Comment below.

Summer Series Look: Copper Glow

It’s hot, it’s humid and my pasty, pasty skin is starting to freckle and burn. It can mean only one thing. It is summer.
If you can’t tell, I am not the biggest fan of summer. I like jeans, tights, winter makeup and hot coffee. All these things give way to shorts, bikinis and ice tea when the weather get hotter.
Oh well, at least the makeup is fun.
In this makeup look I decided to focus on the skin and eyes, highlighting them with bronzy shades. I personally have worn this look for going to the shops and other casual things.
Feel free to tone it down or turn up the make-up look and if you recreate it, tag me on instagram @shaydoesthething or tweet me @beauty_dork

After getting the base down as you usually would (by which I mean foundation and dem eyebrows), it’s time to get to the star of the show, the eyes. For these eyes we are looking for lovely smoky bronzes and coppers. This will bring the gold out in brown and hazel eyes and really intensify blue and green eyes.
Now start out by priming those peepers. You can use any eye shadow primer or a concealer, but I’m using a Maybelline Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze. Look at that bronzy goodness.
Now buff that out with a warm caramel colour. I’m using the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette’s Salted Caramel shade.
After buffing that out, apply your brow bone highlight (I used the White chocolate shadow) and dust a light brown all over the lid. I used milk chocolate.
Now the fun part! Wetting a brush, pack inglots’ pigment in 63 all over the center of the lid. Blend that out with Semi Sweet.
I now conceal in a highlighting triangle underneath my eyes, down my nose, on my forehead to sharpen those brows, and then on my chin. To do this I used Maybeline Fit Me Concealer in Fair and then dust over that with Hourglass Ambbient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. I set the rest of my face with…

Back to the eyes, dust Semi-sweet and Caramel under the eye and line the top lid lightly with a dark chocolate liner or powder to add some definition. Blend over the eye shadows to make it look seamless and smoky.

Apply a highlight on the inner corner (I used the Gold) and I applied a nude eyeliner from Rimmel on my water line to really make my eyes look wider and more awake.
I’m not planning to use liquid liner or a dark liner on the lash line, so go ham with mascara to add volume and length. Use false lashes if you wish and while I usually don't, for tutorial sake I’ve used these Ardel Naturals.
To finish off the face, bronze and contour. To contour I mix the bottom left and middle contour colours in the Australis AC On Tour Contour Kit (a dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hill Contour Kit) and lightly place it under my cheek bone. To blend this out I bronze with the Stila Bronzer and I also bronze my forehead, temples and jaw. It’s summer – go ham with the bronzer.
Add a peachy pink blush and highlight. For blush I use the right Peachy Blush in the BYS On the Brightside blush trio.  To highlight I use M.A.C Soft and Gentle (Wow, way to be cliché). I place this on the top of my cheekbones, on the bridge of my nose and on the cupids bow. It is a beautiful champagne gold colour that gives a radient glow. And if you use it like me, slightly like a disco ball. Spray your face with your setting spray to really finish the look and settle the product down.

For this look I chose to go with a nude lip and I applied Rimmel’s Moisture Renew Lipstick in 720 Notting Hill Nude to finish the look off. While this looks great with a nude lip, don't be afraid to go bold with a peach, orange or red.
And that is the finished look. What do you think, and where would you wear this? What do you like to wear for summer? Comment below.
