SUMMER SERIES: Mandarin Lips

Seeing as last my tutorial (which you can see here) was really focused on those warm summery shades on the lids, this time I thought I would go a bold lip in center stage.
Orange is a colour which distinctly reminds me of summer with its’ brightness and warmth. So this was a great chance to really play with a colour I am not too use to. Honestly though, this eyelook will go with any lip/blush combination, so if you are in winter go a deep red lip and a berry blush!

Feel free to tone it down or turn up the make-up look and if you recreate it, tag me on instagram @shaydoesthething or tweet me @beauty_dork

After moisturizing, apply your base as you usually would. To do this I used Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation and Lumi Magique Primer, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Fair and Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown. I then set the liquids with the Australis AC On Tour Kit using the yellow shade for under the eyes and the pink shade for all over the face.

I’m going for a strong contour using Australis (really? More Australis?) AC On Tour Kit and like in my previous Summer Series tutorial, blending that out well with Stila’s Give Me Sun Bronzer in Light. My review for the AC On Tour Kit can be found here – so if you are interested in my thoughts on it go visit me over there.

I’m blending this light BYS orange blush onto my cheeks very, very carefully because I am not emotionally ready to be an Oompa Loompa. Finally go crazy with some highlight, which I used (surprise) the AC On Tour Kit highlighting shade. Set all this caked product down with a setting spray and take a deep breath because the boring part is nearly over.

Now the lips are the star of the show, so the eyes should be extremely neutral. For this I am using the Lorac Pro Palette. Jeez I adore this palette.
I’m firstly lightly applying the Lorac primer. I then sweep a mixture of cream and white over the entire eye up to the brow bone.
For a transition colour, apply Taupe, a lovely warm brown that is perfect for a crease colour. Apply this colour also to the outer v.
If you want to deepen this look up, apply the shade sable to the outer v and blend in to the taupe and slightly into the crease. I then used the Stila Give Me Sun Bronzer to really warm the eyes up. Add Mary Lou-manizer to the inner corner to give the eye some sparkle.
Using liquid eyeliner, in which I used Maybelline Master Precise (believe the hype), draw a nice thin wing. To finish the eye, apply flirty lashes if that is your thing and mascara to the top lashes only to really lift the eye.

Now the star of the show is super easy. Lastly, apply Rimmel Moisture Renew in In Love with Ginger to the lips and bam! You’re done! If you need to, crisp up that edge by applying concealer around your lip line. This will not only sharpen that line, but really help clean up any little mistakes.

And that is the finished look. What do you think, and where would you wear this? What do you like to wear for summer? Comment below.

Why I Am Not Rich

I know, I know. I wrote you a haul not too long ago. Ok, less than a week ago but spending money on makeup and skin care is something I love doing. Must be that need for instant gratification. Damn.
Well if you want to read up on what I've been spending my money on (which is mostly things I don't need), read on!

·      Borgois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation in 52 Vanille ($32.00)
Not gonna lie, this is one of my holy grail ‘drugstore’ foundations for dry skin. This is healthy glow in a bottle.  While the bottle does have a false claim (16 hours? LIIEESSS) it makes your skin look and feel wonderful.
This has low coverage, so not very good on bad skin days, and wears of quickly (so be ready for touch ups). There is a limited colour range, so if you are looking for a deeper foundation or a pale foundation, you probably won’t find it.
It has a dewy finish, a floral fragrance (which I don’t mind) and overall is an amazing product for people who don’t need much coverage and have dry skin.

·      L’oreal Lumi Magique Foundation in N1 Pure Pearl ($33.95)
It can be so hard to find a light neutral drugstore foundation, so imagine my surprise when I found this. Like the above, it is a dewy foundation that wears off quite quickly. It has a light to medium coverage and is currently my go-to foundation.
The colour range is amazing and I absolutely love this foundation.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Light and Fair ($14.95 each)

On impulse I bought the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Light, which was waaayyy too dark. However the consistency and bendability of this concealer is amazing – supposedly an amazing dupe for the cult classic Nars Creamy Concealer. So of course I had to buy the lighter one.
The fair colour is a much better colour match, however for those fairer porcelain dolls, it will possibly be too dark still.
The only beef I have about this concealer is that it is definitely not long wearing. I don’t have crazy dark circles,l but if there is any blue under your eyes, you will see it in an hour.
Overall, it is good for those lazy days you don’t really want to blend in your MAC Pro Longwear (which for me, is most days).

M.A.C Faux Lipstick (Satin) ($36.00)

This is one of those perfect Kylie Jenner lip colours that everyone talks about. It is a lovely work appropriate mauve nude that has a satin finish. Like most satin M.A.C lipsticks, it is pigmented as not drying in the least.
This is the nude. I wear it nearly everyday and it lasts quite well if you don’t lick your lips. Which I do. You must buy this colour.

·      M.A.C Lady Danger Lipstick (Matte) ($36.00)
There is a M.A.C store that lives right around the corner from me. Dangerous, right? Well then this was the perfect second lipstick to get from there. Do you get the pun yet?
Lady Danger is described as a matte red-orange colour by M.A.C. It pulls a very intense orange on my lips and is matte. But not ruby woo matte in the way it is almost impossible to put on your lips. Instead this is incredibly creamy to apply and turns matte in a few minutes. A purchase I'm pretty happy about.

·      LimeCrime Velvetine in Utopia ($28.00)
My wonderful, wonderful cousin bought this for me. You guys, this colour. Can we just praise all the deities that such a colour exists? Thank you! It is matte and the packaging is adorbs. But warning lip lovers, there are problems with this cult favourite.
Firstly, it applies patchy.
What? you might question. Doesn't it claim to be wonderfully opaque? It does, but it is not. I apply about two coats and still wish it was just a little more opaque.
Finally, it does not last as I expected to last. If you eat, this pretty little lady will fade out on the centre of your lips. So quick touch ups are to be expected.
Will these hang ups stop me from collecting them all? Probably not, I mean gguuuyyyss? That packaging!

·      Rimmel Moisture Renew Notting Hill Nude Lipstick ($13.95)
I love that moisture renew formula. Like all in this line, it is incredibly opaque while still being moisturising. If you don't like a lipstick that may slip or is shiny, this product is not for you.
The colour is a nice mix of nude, pink and brown. Overall I am happy I purchased this product.
Want more? I used this in a tutorial. See it here!

LilyMeetsPearl Purifying Gel Cleanser ($30.00)
This is a nice gentle cleanser. It doesn't foam, it is soothing and smells like mandarin, argan oil and rose. Divine. It is made with organic ingredients and is suitable for all skin types. Not gonna lie, it expensive, but not ridiculously crazy for the benefits. It is wonderful for my dry skin.
While I like the smell, if you do not like fragrances, don't bother because it it very pungent. I hope to try out the whole line one day soon.

Aveeno Positively Radient, Skin Brightening Daily Scrub ($13.99)
Daily Scrub it is not. Twice a week? Sure why not. I had repurchased my previous Garnier scrub so many times that my skin was aching for something new. The phrase 'positively radiant' definitely caught me. I mean, who doesn't want to look 'positively radiant'?
While I haven't noticed any increase in my skins' radiance, it is not too harsh for my skin. In fact, I would prefer something a little more abrasive to get rid of my flaking skin. It is nice and hydrating, but overall I wished I just repurchased my Garnier one.

What have you bought this month? I you have any suggestions on posts or things I must try, please contact me in the comments.
Come back and see me soon, my next post is a (long awaited) review of the Australis AC On Tour Contour and Highlight Kit!
